A
pair of Bachmann GP38's wait at the yard limit signals for a green light to precede
onto the mainline. Note: One thing I had to have is a signal system on my
layout. The signals on the layout I scratchbuilt. I never did get a chance to
hook them all up since I was investigating block detection and trying to get my
head around the concept of Prototypical railroad signaling and how to integrate
it into my layout...more on that on another other pages of this website.

The
same GP38's are now in intermodal service along the west wall. If you noticed
the modern cantilever signal bridges, they were fully scratchbuilt from the
ground up including the 3 color signal D-Type head with snow hoods...pre BLMA's
nice offerings.

Pardon
my cardboard structures, no fascia or ballast...just wasn't sure what the best
order to do them in was back then. I still do the cardboard temporary structures
as I like to see the layout further along than my budget allows sometimes.

Simple
double mainline grade crossing...streets are made from matte board, painted
primer gray, then vinyl tape was used for road center and stop limit lines.

Just
another view around the layout from the inside aisle. The abrupt end of the road
on the left side of the photo was where a removable section of the layout was to
be built at a later date. This particular section needed to be built later so I
could reach the inner section of the layout to do scenery...it was going to be a
small cement processing facility.

Another
removable section was to connect the roads and scenery together here as well but
never got to it...It was to have a small town and main street.

I
think there were graffiti taggers in this van waiting for sundown! Thanks
