Welcome to my Custom Model Railroad Builder website. My name is Mark A. Baczkowski and I'm your website host and the builder. My goal is to work with you to create and build a custom model railroad that you will enjoy owning and operating. Take a look through the website, and if you like my work - let's get busy creating your dream layout.

HO Scale Weber Canyon Layout Photo Gallery

Below are photos of of the 23 1/2' x 7' Weber Canyon Layout. This layout is based on approximately 4 miles of the lower Weber Canyon just East of Ogden, Utah. Although some strategic freelancing was needed to fit the plan into the room, it still captures many of the unique railroad and scenic features of the canyon.

Overall view as you enter the layout room - looking North. This layout was unique as it was 7-1/2' wide and was operated from a center aisle. It did require a duckunder, but at 52" high it was a fairly easy -  "duckunder".

View from the center of the inside of the layout's aisle looking back towards the room entry.

Union Pacific 8104 heading downgrade towards the double track tunnel on it's way to the lower level staging yard.

Dry riverbed below the Weber River flood control dam. This was a work in progress shot since the Weber River never goes dry.

Weber River flood control dam and control station. This facility exists in real life and this is a freelanced scratchbuilt version resized to fit the layout.

View from water lever just up river from the flood control dam.

North side of the twin 150' truss bridges the exist at the top of Weber Canyon.

South side of same twin truss bridges.

This is a small vehicle bridge that can be found at the top of Weber Canyon just off I-84 on the south side of the freeway exit.

This photo shows the layout's summit point and the double track grade crossing to the vehicle bridge in the above photo. Note scratchbuilt cattle guard - it features 2 removable grates, is 1/8" deep and is imbedded into the pavement.

Scratchbuilt I-84 overpass that crosses over the double mainline at the canyons summit.

This is the old freeway that used to traverse the Weber Canyon. The old freeway used to traverse the canyon and run next tot he river. This particular location is known as Devil's Gate and the Union Pacific since the mid 1860's has had several bridge variations over this part of the river and canyon. The current version in the photos closely represents what you would see today.

The MOW crew making their rounds for the day to inspect the Devil's Gate bridge.

Union Pacific 9711 coasts a string of empties down the Weber Canyon's track #2 on it's way to UP's Ogden Yard.

A closer view of UP 9711 and the hand carved rock work around Tunnel 3.

Union Pacific 9711 heading into Tunnel 4 then on to the lower staging yard (Ogden). These 2 tunnels do not exist in real life but were necessary to transition from the upper deck of the layout to the lower deck staging yard.
